| A report prepared by Forestry Consultants and Timber Surveyors in October 1961 emphasises the “very fine heavy timber ... an over-mature mixture of Beech and Sweet Chestnut [etc]” and also emphasises the quantities of “dead, dying, diseased or dangerous” trees. In 1964, 534 trees of ten species were felled, 32.8% being sweet chestnut, 27.3% being beech 15.9% being oak, 7.3% being larch and 6.7% being Scots pine. A survey of the remaining trees in 1971 found just over 300 trees of more than ten metres in height and about another 100 smaller trees. Of the larger trees, 72% were broad-leaved (mainly beech, oak and sycamore) and 28% were coniferous. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
